Growing Strength is A.M.O.B.’s trauma-informed mental health initiative designed to support girls and young women ages 10–24 who are experiencing trauma, violence exposure, post-COVID depression, anxiety, and emotional crisis. The program provides safe, accessible mental health services that help participants process difficult experiences, build resilience, and develop healthy coping strategies.

The program will provide individual counseling, small-group therapeutic sessions, and guided peer support circles led by qualified mental health professionals and trained youth mentors. Participants will receive counseling focused on trauma recovery, emotional regulation, grief, stress management, and healing from violence exposure. Weekly mental wellness workshops will also help girls learn practical skills such as coping strategies, conflict resolution, self-confidence building, and healthy communication. Youth experiencing immediate emotional distress will have access to crisis intervention support and referrals for additional clinical services when necessary.

Implementation will occur through school partnerships, community referrals, and programming at the A.M.O.B. center. Services will be delivered through scheduled weekly sessions, with additional one-on-one counseling available for participants who require deeper support. The program will use trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices that prioritize safety, trust, and empowerment. Regular check-ins, wellness assessments, and supportive engagement with families will help ensure participants receive consistent care and measurable progress.

Growing Strength aligns with grant goals focused on improving youth mental health and expanding access to behavioral health services for vulnerable populations. Many girls in the communities we serve face significant barriers to receiving mental health care, including limited financial resources, stigma surrounding counseling, and lack of accessible services. By providing free, community-based mental health support within trusted environments, A.M.O.B. helps ensure early intervention and prevents untreated trauma from escalating into long-term mental health challenges.

Health equity is central to the Growing Strength program. A.M.O.B. primarily serves girls from underserved communities disproportionately impacted by poverty, community violence, and limited access to mental health resources. Our program removes these barriers by offering no-cost counseling services, culturally competent support, and programming located within schools and community spaces that youth already trust.

Through Growing Strength, A.M.O.B. will expand access to critical mental health services while empowering girls and young women to heal, build resilience, and thrive.
